Sabrina Ehlert is an award-winning Mexican American filmmaker with an MFA in film and television production from USC. Her work shines a spotlight on Latines in various roles, from mothers and advocates to engineers and detectives.
Sabrina co-wrote, produced, and directed Esmeralda, receiving mentorship from Paul Feig and Laura Fischer’s Powderkeg Media, with sponsorship from Google and the Producers Guild of America. She also created a three-episode television series produced by USC and was awarded the Alfred P. Sloan production grant. Sabrina wrote and directed Launch Fever, which won four Telly Awards and received a nomination for Best Short Film at the Imagen Awards. Most recently, Sabrina was selected as a 2024 Sundance Latine Collab Scholarship Artist.
Her work has been distributed by HBO and Kanopy, as well as showcased at numerous film festivals including Austin Film Festival, Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival, PGA Produced By Conference, and Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival, among others.
Coming from a family of engineers, Sabrina defied expectations by pursuing a career in filmmaking (though she basically considers herself a “story” engineer). Through her writing and directing, she explores her own Latina identity, crafting stories that reflect diverse perspectives and resonate with contemporary social realities.
Sabrina currently works as a Showrunners’ Assistant for Acapulco Season 4 on Apple TV+.
